Alameda Democratic Committee Volunteers’ Position Opening:
Positions are available on the Democratic Committee, an educational public charter school oversight & management organization serving two of the Bay Area’s leading charter schools, Alameda Community Learning Center (ACLC) and Nea Community Learning Center (Nea). The democratic committee seeks to provide oversight of ACLC and Nea to ensure a unique and cooperative democratic culture for educational management.
The Democratic Committee serves 840 K-12 grade learners with a mission to empower all youth to take ownership of their educational experience, to celebrate their diverse community, and to actively participate as members in a democratic society. The Democratic Committee executes their volunteer service through a community learning model which prioritizes democracy to increase collaboration and gain consensus from all stakeholders. These volunteers come from diverse backgrounds. Many democratic committee volunteers have volunteered directly to impact CLCS schools resulting in an innovative, financially sustainable educational model with over 22 years of operating success between both schools, with 90% of CLCS alumni continuing on to attend college, including schools such as Harvard, UC Berkeley, Stanford, Yale, M.I.T., UCLA and Princeton.
Democratic Committee is expanding its oversight duties. We are now exploring options of launching a new and improved charter or magnet educational model which provides 100% direct democracy by the management organization. The management organization will be a co-op of stakeholders (e.g., learners, staff, alumni, alumnus, parents, guardians). All stakeholders will own the management of a unique and improved democratic and project based learning educational model. This model will never be franchised. This model will focus on Alameda families. This model promises to have the largest per pupil spending percentage of all Alameda schools. Volunteers are needed for conducting research on the potential of this new charter or magnet educational program model.
All interested parties must have a passion for integrity in educational management. Board experience, educational leadership experience, and governance experience which can complement and enhance the capacity of the already committed and capable team of volunteers is welcomed. It is not a must. Interested parties should possess any combination of the following attributes and passions:
CLCS’ certificated and non-certificated staff
CLCS’ learners, alumni and alumnus
Parents or guardians of current learners of a CLCS school
A high degree of integrity, and compassion for all educational stakeholders
Proficiency on Twitter and Twitter voting apps
The ability to have fun and stay positive despite conflict
Concern for Alameda education
Experience with project based learning
Passion for increasing per pupil spending for Alameda students
Love for grant writing
Desire to be meticulous and detailed oriented
Courage to stand against mismanagement of state and federal educational resources
