AMESBURY — A registered Democrat since she was 18, until this current presidential election cycle, Audrey Proctor, 59, hadn’t found a candidate that excited her as much as Ted Kennedy did in 1980.
When her husband John suggested they drive down to the National Democratic Convention in Philadelphia next month, she had a pretty definitive answer.
“I said, ‘What do I want to go down to Philadelphia in the summer for? I want to be at Salisbury Beach. You think I am going to give up a beach day to go vote for Hillary Clinton?’” Proctor said. “That will never happen.”
But both of the Proctors will be heading down to the City of Brotherly Love after all in late July, where Audrey will be casting her vote for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders as a delegate from the Massachusetts Sixth Congressional District.
“I have no idea what to expect,” Proctor said. “I am sure that I will be pressured to flip, but I am not flipping.”
A retired special education teacher, Proctor now works as a part-time speech therapist and briefly canvassed for Kennedy’s 1980 presidential campaign. For the full article click here
