Democrats running for every State Senate seat

TOPEKA, Kan. (KAKE) – The Kansas Democratic Party will field candidates in every State Senate district this year, for the first time in 30 years.

The Democrats announced Wednesday they also will have candidates in about three out of four state House districts. But the filing deadline apparently passed with no Democrat running for Tim Huelskamp’s seat in Congress.

Democratic Executive Director Kerry Gooch said the filings reflect dissatisfaction with Gov. Sam Brownback “and his radical conservative administration.” He noted some incumbents in the legislature decided not to seek re-election. They include Sen. Michael O’Donnell of Wichita, who is running for Sedgwick County Commission.

The August Republican primary will feature Huelskamp facing Dr. Roger Marshall of Great Bend. The winner apparently will meet Alan LaPolice in November. LaPolice ran as a Democrat in 2014, but has announced plans to run this year as an independent. For the full article click here
