Democratic candidates in 18th here tonight

BLOOMINGTON — The monthly meeting of the McLean County Democratic Party Thursday evening will feature the two Democratic candidates for the 18th Congressional District special election, Rob Mellon of Quincy and Adam Lopez of Springfield.

The meeting, open to the public, begins at 6:30 p.m., at Laborers Local 362 Hall, 2012 Fox Creek Road, Bloomington.

Mellon is a high school teacher in Quincy and a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve.  Adam Lopez is a member of the Springfield school board and a Country Financial representative.   The two will face each other in a July 7 Democratic primary, with the general election to fill the vacant seat on Sept. 10.  The special election was called because of the resignation of Aaron Schock.

Several Republicans are seeking the GOP nomination.
