Pa. Democratic leadership’s support for Katie McGinty was misguided

Pennsylvania Democratic leadership invested millions to nominate an inferior U.S. Senate candidate, Katie McGinty, in the Pennsylvania primary.

As a citizen who cares deeply about education and the environment and is opposed to endless war, I supported a much superior candidate, Joe Sestak. I concur with the comments of Robert Ferguson in the May 2 letter “Pa. Democratic Leaders Wasted Money on Katie McGinty.”

Ms. McGinty, who has never held an elected position and has a disappointing, lukewarm record on energy and the environment, was nevertheless propped up by state Democratic leaders in the final weeks of the primary to win with only 42 percent of the vote. Why? Evidently Adm. Sestak has never been forgiven for his successful bid against Arlen Specter, the Democrats’ chosen candidate in the 2010 primary.

Joe Sestak has demonstrated that he is a man of integrity who is willing to do the right thing, thinks for himself and cannot be bought. He has a sterling record on education, women’s rights, health care, jobs, military families and clean, renewable energy. He has a 96 percent rating on the environment by the League of Women Voters, and he was the only candidate with the courage to call for a moratorium on fracking. For the full article click here
